Technology and the Job Search in 2017

If you aren’t familiar with Hannah Morgan’s Career Sherpa blog, now is a great time to add it to your career development reading list. In the most recent post, “31 Experts Share Predictions for Job Search in 2017.”

Chances are that you’ll recognize a lot of these experts from your social media feeds. You’ll also see a lot of references to technology and social media. A few of my favorites include:

  • Telecommuting and Remote Work – “More people will shift to telecommuting/remote work and freelancing, both part-time and fulltime …” – Jacob Share
  • LinkedIn and Traditional Resumes – “Savvy job seekers will fully populate every applicable LinkedIn section …” – Meg Guiseppi
  • Mobile Job Applications – “Chatbots will allow you to apply from your mobile phone with just a few clicks…” – Chris Russell
  • Social Media Recruitment – “Don’t underestimate how important it is to engage in online groups …” – Miriam Salpeter

Take some time to review all of the suggestions, organized into categories, in the Career Sherpa Slideshow.

Do these predictions match your own for the coming year? Share your strategies for helping students and clients master the job search process in 2017.
